Have you ever stopped to think about how impressionable children are? They follow you everywhere you go, hang on your every word, want to do whatever you do, and be just like you. I have a three (soon to be four) year old son and it was amazing to see the things he learned this year not just at home from mom and dad but while we were at Vacation Bible School. Jesus loved children He even rebuked his own disciples one time when they tried to keep the children from sitting on His lap.
He also warns us not to offend “one of these little ones” We can also hurt a child just as easily as teach them, by doing things we shouldn’t or just by saying the wrong words to them. We can shatter that faith they put in us. I believe that not only applies to what children see us doing but what adults see us do as well. People we pass everyday, those we love, and those who we work with. They see what we do and how we act.
Jesus says we need to become like little children. When I read this I think of the faith a child puts into his/her parents. That mom and dad will fix a scrape or cut, catch them when they fall, and keep them safe. Jesus will do the same thing for us when we put that same faith, the faith of a child, in Him. He is our protector, savior, friend, and healer. I love the Lord and pray that my faith can be as strong as the faith my son, the faith of a child, puts in me. |
