POLITICS AND RELIGION

By James E. Crigger

I find it interesting. The various messages in the social media and elsewhere with varying stands and views on religion vs. politics.  The Bible tells us to pray for those whom GOD has placed in positions of authority.  I don’t understand this but it means that even Hitler was allowed to be in his position by God.

The Book of Revelation has many references to events and happenings in “the last days”.  These things will happen because God said they would.  In other words, there will be corrupt politicians; there will be wars; there will be tumultuous weather and more.  Christians will not be respected.  Many who call themselves Christian will cause others to judge real Christians because of their un-Christian actions.
We must pray for these sinners, that they would accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  Bear in mind that if we pray for events to be changed, this is contrary to the Bible’s statement that these things will happen. You can't change what God has already foretold.
We cannot change the weather!  We cannot change God’s plans!  We can change people by praying for them and sharing Jesus and His Salvation with them.  This is all we can do.  God has already set in motion these other events.  Can we change God’s plans?  No!  We can, and must change ourselves to meet the guidelines set up by God to be a “real” Christian and be able to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Gun control has been a favorite topic lately.  I believe in freedom and I believe in the right to defend one's self, which can include the right to bear arms. In the 1st century AD, Christians were martyred for their faith.  In some countries today, Christians are being martyred.  One note on the 1st century Christian, when they were thrown in to fight the gladiators, they laid down their swords and allowed themselves to be killed without fighting back.  Women would cover their children as they were devoured by the lions.  If they instead killed in retaliation, Christians would have gone down in history with other revolts such as one led by Spartacus.  This did not end well.
The biggest reason Christianity is still alive today is because we have a risen Savior who taught us love instead of hate.  Peace instead of war.  Men and women who would rather die than renounce their Savior.  Men and women who showed love and forgiveness to those who were about to kill them.
We cannot change God’s plans.  We cannot change man by fighting him or even arguing with him.  We can’t change men by politics.  We can only change man by love and telling him about Jesus and Salvation.  We must pray for them.   I don’t agree with the current political situation myself, but I can only pray for God’s will.  If God’s will is Socialism,  If God’s will is a dictator, or whatever.  God’s will, will be done.  I cannot nor would not try to change the plans of God.
Pray for me.  Pray for your neighbors and family.  Pray for the politicians and the un-godly.  Don’t curse them, don’t fight them.  Remember, the 11th commandment (given by Jesus)  John 13:34-35: A new commandment I give unto you that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.   By this shall they shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye  have love one to another”
