SCOTT GODSEY
HOMELAND INSPIRATIONAL GROUP CONTINUED

SCOTT CONT: That’s why we have all these other labels that can be home to other artists who may not be where they want to be ultimately.

JIM: So you have a label for every artist.  Like beginner, inter-mediate and so on.
SCOTT: Basically that’s what we’ve done because we have a studio, we have all these activities we have going on at our company and we want to help everybody we possibly can.  Everybody’s at a different place on the learning curve but they’re all going out on Sunday mornigs or during the week and they’re presenting the Gospel through song.  So, if we can help them in any way with their program, song selection, making sure that their ministry is as effective as possible.  That’s what we feel our job is.  So, beginner, inter-mediate, whatever you consider yourself to be.  Absolutely, we’re always looking for new folks.  Having said that, we have a lot of people on our roster.  Theres only so much time in a day but we’re always looking for, I hate to say “the next best thing”, that’s what we’re looking for.

JIM: How would they get in touch with you.
SCOTT: We have our web site www.homelandententainmentgroup.com and our telephone number is 1-615-461-8412 or, you can send an e-mail to me personally at scottg@homelandentertainmentgroup.com.

JIM: Doesn’t one of your labels specialize in sound tracks?
SCOTT: Well, it’s not really a label but we do have different divisions that deal with sound tracks.  If you are looking for a certain song, call us up and we probably have it somewhere.  We have our Easy Key line and then also about 3900 other tracks.

JIM: I heard your dad, Alan sing today.
SCOTT: Yeah!  He has a ministry in Indiana and he’s been singing for many years.  Of course, I love him dearly.  He means a lot to me and he sings just about every weekend with his group called The Northmen.

JIM: I think I got something concerning a singspiration from your dad.
SCOTT: Yeah!  He hosts The Northern Gospel Singing Convention in Marion, Indiana on the first weekend of every August.  That’s a big success.  A lot of groups come there and perform there.  It’s a really intimate environment that everybody seems to enjoy, including the fans.

JIM: Getting a little serious, what is your opinion on the business aspect of gospel music, singers, quartets and such, as being compared to or opposed to the ministerial content?
SCOTT: I think most of our artists today are singing good songs.  A lot of times, they’re going back to the old hymns.  Songs that might have been popular in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.  Having songs, and singing them well doesn’t do much for your heart.  After all, from the ministry stand point we have to have songs that touch us.  This afternoon, a song, If It Wasn’t For The Cross by Freedom.  They sing that song and it touches me every time I hear it.  Finding songs that really touch people and encourage them is ultimately what we need to do and what we strive to do every day.  Having “fun” music that makes you clap your hands and stamp your feet.  That’s all fine and good but we really need to find music that touches our heart and will encourage us in our everyday walk with Christ.

JIM: I heard you today doing some MCing.  I saw you running a little bit of the sound as well, but I didn’t hear you sing.
SCOTT: Well I used to sing with my father’s group.  I don’t sing out very often.  When I have the opportunity, I sing background vocals on several projects throughout the year.  It’s just not really what I feel called to do anymore.  I’ve been there, done that, and so I just want to try and help as many other people as possible that are singing.  That’s really what I feel called to do.

JIM: This might be an improper question but here’s the question: How old are you?
SCOTT: I’m 25 years old

JIM: You’ve done a lot in that short time.
