Elephants in the Bible
Elephants are not mentioned in the Bible. However, there is a possible reference to elephants in the Bible in 1 Kings 10:22 For the king had at sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks. The ivory mentioned in verse could be from Elephants.
Elephants are mentioned in the books of the Machabee. 1 Maccabees and 2 Maccabees are deuterocanonical books that are part of the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox canons, but not part of the Protestant Old Testament or the Jewish Bible. |
