If I find myself looking for a larger mansion or more gold or other petty “rewards”, the answer is “I don’t need them, don’t expect them and I’m really not promised to have these types of reward”.
God created us! Jesus died for us! He prepared a place for us (Heaven). We are told we will be together with Jesus and our loved ones in Heaven forever. Isn’t this enough! YES IT IS!
As time goes by, this doesn’t seem to be enough for a modern Christian. We want recognition. We want compensation. We want a higher place. We already have “the highest place” that we could ever imagine. We are called “Children of God”.
I am at times appalled when I see a Christian witnessing to a non-Christian and they make statements that seem to state that a Christian is better. We are not “better”, we are “saved”. Salvation does not make us better, it just means that we are delivered from behavior and saved from sins that would otherwise sentence us to an eternity in Hell.
I wrote a song called “Just Another Bum For Jesus”. This song was meant to remind us that we are nothing without Jesus. We are the beggar at the table asking our Master (Jesus) for the crums that fall from the table. We do not become Lord over anyone. We accept Jesus as Lord over us. We do not become Master, we serve the Master. We are beggars who are blessed to receive those “crums”
There once was a book titled “I’m OK, You’re OK”. The book was meant to remind us that we are saved. We are OK. Many have taken this to represent that we are special and no matter what we do, we will go to Heaven. My Bible tells me that if I sin, and did not ask forgiveness for that sin, that I will go to Hell. God does not allow sin. What makes us think that we can behave as a sinner and still receive the reward of Heaven. We cannot!
Our reward is Heaven. Our job is to tell others about Jesus so they can go to Heaven. We are not better than them. We are just saved and they’re not.
Whatever you do in life; whomever you may help; whatever you may give in money or in time; this is our purpose. Our dedication to God. Our commitment to God. This is not something we can choose. Our commandment is to “go into all the world and preach the Gospel”. We witness by example. Are you an example of a Christian, or an example of a hippocrite?
Let us follow the example of Job. “though He slay me, yet will I serve Him”. Let us also testify that “as for me and my house, I will serve the Lord”.
Let us not focus on reward. Let us strive for the prize. That prize is salvation. That prize is Heaven and eternal life. This is enough for me.
