A Family Tradition | |
Those of us who remember The Rex Nelon Singers are priviliged to see the beginnings of a “Family Tradition”. |
When we were young, or even now, we might find it difficult to turnthe fame and fortune that comes with “The American Idol”. When they wanted Amber to compromise with her beliefs, she said no. Now that is an example of true Christianity. The whole family is dedicated to those beliefs. Their new album “Come On Home” is an example of that kind of dedication to God. One of the songs on that album was written by Bill & Gloria Gaither. It is based upon a true story. The song is: “Excuse Me! Are You Jesus”? At the end of this article, you can hear this song by simply clicking onto it’s title. You will also be able to hear the live interview we had with The Nelons when they appeared, in concert in Vienna, WVa.
I’m sure that this “Family Tradition” of ministry and music will not stop with the current group “The Nelons”. Just as you cannot stop the works of God, you cannot stop those who are dedicated to working for God. It is certainly a blessing to see groups like The Nelons who have continued following in their parents footsteps in ministry for God. There are so many, I couldn’t begin to name them. I do find it encouraging to see so many new groups with members who are below 30 years of age and are beginning a new “Family Tradition”. Let us not only enourage the old, but above all, let us encourage and support the new. Even if the style of some of these groups is not quite “traditional”, they are still singing about the same Saviour; Jesus Christ. Jesus said: “Forbid them not, there either for me or against me”. When you have the opportunity to hear The Nelons in concert, go! When you can purchase or listen to their music, do so! You will be glad you did. Support is the key word. Through prayer and financial support, groups like the Nelons can continue serving God according to their calling. It does take money to feed the group and to feed the bus! Thanks to the Nelons for sharing with us. Now, we can share with you. Their web-site is: www.kellynelon.com. Listen to some of their music and interview below. |
