Paul said: Ist Corinthians 9:19For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23And this I do for |
the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.“
I believe that Paul made this statement knowing that man would divide their faith in God according to what they interpreted things to be.
Paul also said in Ist Corinthians 3:3For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
5Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
This shows the beginning of denominations. They were separating themselves according to the preacher who told them of Jesus. Paul told them that all are important but there is only one belief, Jesus.
I was raised by my aunt and uncle in a Pilgrim Holiness Church. I was called to preach there at 11 years old.
At 18 I was baptized in a Baptist church in West Virginia and still hold my membership there.
At 22, I began going to The Church of God of Anderson, Indiana (W 4th Ave Church of God in Columbus, Ohio. I went to one of their colleges in Florida.
I later became a member of The Church of The Brethren in Columbus, Ohio and was an Associate Pastor there.
I was ordained independently in 1983 and have traveled the country in musical evangelism and ministry. In that office, I have ministered to hundreds of churches in various denominations in 39 states. Most of these agree that our faith and belief in Jesus Christ is all that is necessary. The rest is just, shall we say, window dressing. Nothing matters but Jesus Christ.
We seem to be living in an era where denominational names mean more than Christ. Instead of being one body under Christ, we are many parts that fight each other over little petty differences. Christ, Him crucified, raised from the dead, and Christ alone can forgive our sins and bring our salvation. A denomination cannot do that.
You are not saved by baptism or tongues or gifts of the Spirit. It is fine to have them and believe in them. However, only Jesus can save you!
