know the person that is sitting right next to us.
Christians seem to want to get in and out of church as quickly as possible, therefore missing the fellowship entirely. Have people become less intrigued in talking to someone face to face? Furthermore has God and His people become so boring that we don’t even take the time to fellowship with them anymore?
The Bible teaches us the importance of fellowship. In Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsake the assembling of yourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”. Many Christians believe that the meaning of assembling is to go to church and listen to the pastor preach. There is so much more to fellowship than that.
Fellowship! What does the word really mean? The definition is a friendly relationship among people who share similar interest, activity, feeling, or experience. Most organized churches do well in some of these areas but lack in others. Fellowship is the major element that is missing in the church today. How often do you see somebody in church or you sit next to them and don’t even know their name? We need to take the time to get to know that person, by taking interest in them. Maybe ask the person how their week went or how is your family doing.
Fellowship is not something you should do once a week in church but you should practice it everyday. Jesus taught us to love one another as you would yourself.
When going to church (assembling) you get to mingle with other Christians/Friends for just a short period of time, then for the rest of the time you are sitting and listening to the rest of the service. Now this is well and good, but where is the interaction or fellowship?
In order to fellowship you need to have two-way communication, if you don’t have that then all you have is a lecture (Sermon). How can we strongly encourage or help someone if all we do is preach at him or her within the walls of the church? Besides, talk is cheap. Actions speak loader than words. If you are a Christian then live like one and fellowship like one.
Non-Christians will know right away that you are a Christian without even telling them. They will sense something different about you, they will feel a peace, joy and contentment that can only come from one source, God!
We are supposed to get involved with our brothers and sisters in Christ and share each other’s burdens. In Galations 6:2 “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ”.
