What God’s Word Says

Jeff B. from Columbus, Ohio asks:
“Why are there so many forms of baptism; sprinkling, dunking, etc.”
Jeff, there is, according to God’s Word, only one form of water baptism.  From the Greek word “bap-tid-so” which translated means: to make whelmed (fully wet) or immersed.
If one must be made fully wet, it seems to suggest a lot of water.  As a matter of fact, there is one scripture in which it mensions that the reason John was baptizing was because there was much water.
However, John himself said that one would come after him (John) who would baptize with The Holy Spirit.

   This one is Jesus.
Matthew 3:11 “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me is mightier that I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.
Paul, unlike John the Baptist was called for a different purpose as stated in this scripture.
I Corinthians 1:17 “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect”.
We Christians have enough to argue about.  Wouldn’t it be more productive if we honored these words in the Bible?
Ephesians 4:5 “One Lord, one faith, one baptism”.
We learned that Christ was to “baptize in The Holy Spirit”.  Again, I suggest you seek the answer for yourself.  We are not to argue over baptism, we should rather seed the way Christ taught, that there is a better way: “to love one another” John 13:34, 35.  Why don’t we try it?
